Working conditions

  • Work with project managers and other team members to understand the scope of the project, constraints, and other project needs;
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements by studying project scope, preliminary designs, specifications, and related documents;
  • Compute costs by analyzing labor, materials, cost of contracts, etc;
  • Use cost other project data to develop initial and funding estimates for projects as part of the project team;
  • Monitor forecast and actual project spending as a means of improving the estimating process;
  • Responsible for preparing formal estimate documents;
  • Facilitate and participate in the internal review of project cost estimates, coordinating comments & updates and ultimately obtaining estimate approval as required;
  • Review and deliver estimates to Project management team and the client for approval;
  • Review and issue updates to projects cost estimates in a controlled manner;
  • Liaise with engineering, procurement, subcontract and construction functions to maintain awareness of the requirements and costs of labour, plant and equipment, materials, subcontracts, and other provisions, to ensure these are accurately reflected in the project cost estimate; 
  • Review and issue change orders in accordance with the appropriate change notifications; 
  • Play an active role in the mentoring and career development of Estimating personnel; 
  • Ensure alignment with Khazar Engineering processes, procedures, and guidelines;
  • Responsible for the overall development of the total project estimate;
  • Arrange and conduct department, discipline, and project estimate review;
  • Review and communicate cost and schedule impact of change notifications.

Requirements

  • Typically requires (Bachelors) Degree in a relevant technical or business discipline (or equivalent gained through relevant vocational training and/or industry experience);
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of industry experience, with at least three (3) years in estimating positions;
  • Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques and systems with a detailed knowledge of how these are applied;
  • Excellent understanding of project management principles and techniques;
  • Strong understanding of Cost Management, Change Control, Planning & Project Management;
  • Solid knowledge and experience in the use of spreadsheets and other estimating tools;
  • Prior experience in a Senior Estimating role;
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team;
  • Effective organization & planning skills;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities;
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral , uses initiative, experience and a proactive approach to problem solving;
